# Home rehabilitation grants for low-income homeowners

Definition

FY 2024 Status Update (Updated Fiscal Year Annual):

The City of Hayward partners with two local agencies, Habitat for Humanity and Rebuilding Together, to carry out home rehabilitation activities for low-income homeowners in the community. These efforts are funded through the City's annual Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) allocation, with each agency specializing in different rehabilitation activities.

Habitat for Humanity is responsible for carrying out major home repairs and upgrades including repair or replacement of roofs, siding, porches, plumbing, electrical systems and stairs as well as installation new of water heaters, furnaces, bathroom fixtures, windows, flooring, and appliances. Habitat for Humanity also obtains all necessary permits or inspections and hires local licensed contractors and materials suppliers when possible. Home repairs are funded as 0% interest, forgivable loans and grant assistance provided through the City.

In FY 2024, 7 unduplicated Hayward clients received rehabilitation loans and grant assistance for home repairs. This is short of Habitat for Humanity's goal of 8 unduplicated residents.

In FY 2024, Rebuilding Together provided services to 42 unduplicated Hayward residents, exceeding the annual goal of 40. Note that services were not offered in Q4 of FY 2024 as services transitioned from Rebuilding Together Oakland to Rebuilding Together East Bay Network.
